    We've been fortunate enough to connect with Jeffery P. Taylor, MPHManagerEpidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit, from Austin Public Health. He is excited to share this incredible information with us, and will answer your questions.

    With many current COVID guideline changes in Austin, this means it's the perfect time to learn how to successfully follow these guidelines for your business.  

    In this live meeting, you'll learn:

    • Austin Public Health's role and job duties in the area of COVID-19. Are there any helpful resources that Austin Public Health recommends?
    • Current outdoor & indoor COVID capacities for venues, restaurants and bars. 
    • Specific guidelines that pertain to the wedding industry and/or large gatherings
    • Estimate timeframe when venues will be able to operate at 100 percent capacity indoors. 
    • What COVID numbers/rates have to look like before we reach that point of "normal."
    • Required & recommended protocols venues, vendors, and guests should be following as weddings & events begin to pick back up.
    • The best way to handle those that are anti-mask wearing or not socially distancing. 
    • Repercussions or fines that are in place in Travis County at this point that wedding vendors should be aware of during large gatherings.
    • Austin Public Health's predictions for the 2021 year. 

    Jeffrey Taylor, MPH
    Epidemiology Manager, Austin Public Health

    Jeff Taylor earned a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. He has been an infectious disease epidemiologist with the Texas Department of State Health Services and the City of Austin for over 37 years. He is currently a manager of the Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit of Austin Public Health. This Unit is responsible for infectious disease surveillance and rare disease or outbreak investigations within Travis County.

    While working at the Texas Department of State Health Services from 1981 through 2013, he served as the Manager or Director of various branches or groups involved in the surveillance of infectious diseases. During his career, he has directed numerous investigations of common source and community outbreaks involving tuberculosis, respiratory and zoonotic diseases and foodborne and waterborne diseases. He was the principal investigator for several grants and cooperative agreements funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He was the secondary supervisor for seven CDC Epidemic Intelligence Officers (EIS) and assisted in the development of a public health internship program with the University of Texas at Austin.

    Jeff is the author on over 50 publications in peer-review journals on infectious disease topics including murine typhus, tularemia, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, foodborne diseases, brucellosis and tuberculosis. His three most recent publications involve articles addressing the West Nile virus epidemic in Texas in 2012, a murine typhus cluster in Austin, and the burden of falls in persons aged 65 years or older in Travis County.

    The WNT board decided to volunteer our time in the month of November to a non-profit association in the community. That association is Hope Austin. 

    Monica von Waaden Founder/Executive Director, Hope Austin, is excited to have Wedding Network Texas members and non-members volunteer at Hope Austin. 

    In our communications with Monica, she expressed, "HopeAustin is in it's 5th year of service to our local communities. It is our most heart felt endeavor to ensure food security to all Central Texas Students. This summer all through COVID we were able to work alongside several of our District Partners in in 2 short months provide of 11,000 meal kits to students in need that is 66,000 meals plus snacks and protein drink."

    We hope to make a difference by volunteering, and we need your help! We cannot do it alone. It's only an hour and a half of your time. This registration is for the following date:

    Volunteer Guidelines

    1. If you have been tested for Covid-19, or have had COVID, please ensure you follow all current guidelines for returning to work or other areas of social living, as per most recent guidelines issued by the CDC.

    2. Must not have traveled anywhere outside the Austin metroplex within the last 14 days.

    3. Must check temperature 24 hours prior to volunteering and within an hour of volunteering. A Fever is anything above 99.6.

    4. Must be amenable to have temperature checked upon entry to HopeAustin facility, if asked.

    5. Must stay home if showing ANY symptoms of being ill. (Ex. Cough, sore throat, stomach issues, gastrointestinal issues including vomiting and diarrhea, shortness of breath, tightness in chest, fever, loss of taste smell)

    6. Must NOT be the primary caregiver for anyone over 65 who is immunocompromised.

    7. Must use sanitizer upon entering facility.

    8. Must bring mask to volunteer and wear the mask for the duration of the volunteer activity.***

    9. Social Distancing practices will be implemented and followed. 10. All volunteers must be aware that even with precautions being put in place, congregating with others may pose a risk to themselves and any individual (healthy and immune-compromised) with whom they are around.
